Swimming Lessons for Term 4

Next term we are booked into the Oasis Swimming Centre at South Windsor for swimming lessons. Each year this is a great start to the swimming season for all children. Parents report that their children’s swimming skills improve greatly as a result of this program. This children in the top swimming groups will be participating in a Life Saving course as part of their program.

The cost of the swimming program will be $135 per child. This includes the bus fare, entry to the pool and the swimming lessons. This is a whole school program and children will be leaving the school at approximately 12:00pm and arriving back at school at about 2:50pm. If you do not want your child to take part in this program you need to pick your child up from school at 12 noon as there will be no supervision at school.

Our Swimming Program starts on the first day back for Term 4, Monday 9 October 2017. It runs Monday to Thursday for the first two weeks of term. Please make sure that your children remember swimmers, towels, goggles and a separate bag to carry wet things.

Please click on the link below to access the permission note.

Meeting your child at the Pool

Sometimes parents, especially those who live near South Windsor, prefer to pick their child/ren up from the Pool rather than at school. Parents are welcome to pick their children up from the pool after swimming lessons. However, if you are intending to pick your child/ren up from the pool please put a note in your child’s diary (so that the teachers know to make sure your children take all their belongings to the pool with them). You must be at the pool no later than 2:10pm. Children will not be left at the Pool without their own parent (or an adult that the parent has already informed teachers about) and the bus needs to leave on time (2:10pm) to meet connecting buses back at school. If you are running late and do not arrive before the bus leaves: do not panic. Your child/ren will be waiting for you, back at school.

Parenting Classes

Some parents have indicated that they would like our school to organise some parenting classes.  The idea is that the school could organise for some “expert” speakers to conduct classes at our school to help parents investigate different ways of managing children’s behaviour. The school could provide some child minding if parents thought that would be useful. Before we go ahead and try to organise this we would like to know how many parents would be interested.

Please indicate below whether you would like to take advantage of this opportunity.

Presentation Night DVD

Each year we contract a professional to come to our Presentation Night and video the children’s musical performance and award ceremony. This allows our community to be able to watch the performance live without having to film it themselves or block other people’s view while they are trying to film. The result has always been received well and has become an important keep-sake for our children. Every family will be invoiced for one copy of the DVD ($32). This will be included on the Term 4 invoice. If you want more than one copy or you do not want to purchase one, please let Sherene know so that your invoice can be adjusted.

UNSW Reading Competition

We had some good results in the 2017 UNSW Reading Competition. Of the 34 primary children who sat this very difficult test, 9 children received special awards. That represents 26% of our primary population. Ali was awarded a High Distinction Certificate which placed her in the top 1% of students sitting the test;  Soren and Tristan were awarded Distinction Certificates;  Lily, Ava, Sarah, Arabella and Amber were awarded Credit Certificates;  Jet was awarded a Merit Certificate.

Great work, children!

Mathletics Awards

Mathletics is an online Mathematics program which is used across the school K-6 to help improve the mathematical skills of our children. Three of our students have been recognised, by the Mathletics team, for excellent work on the program. Congratulations to Lauren, Tristan and Sarah for an outstanding performance in Mathletics this year.

Great work, children!

Notice about Leaving the School

Parents are reminded that it is school policy for a term’s notice to be given in writing when withdrawing a child from the School, in order for Family Bonds to be refunded. For any students not continuing at the school next year (2018) this notice would need to be given in writing no later than Friday 22 September 2017. As our School has only a limited number of places available, it is important when considering new enrolments that we know how many vacancies we have.

Interrelate Program – Years 5 & 6

Interrelate has been providing the Moving into the Teen Years program to our school every second year over a large number of years. We run the program at the end of the year as our Year 5 students are more mature at the end of the year rather than the beginning and our Year 6 students are preparing for high school. This program will be conducted during Term 4 for children in Years 5 & 6. The Program consists of two 3 hour sessions conducted during school hours. The sessions include: Session 1: Who am I? Explores the uniqueness of the individual, highlighting personal strengths and enhancing self-concept. Physical differences between males and females will be discussed. Session 2: Look I’m Changing Deals comprehensively with the physical and emotional changes experienced at puberty. Session 3: What’s it all about? Covers reproduction, conception, fertilisation and foetal development in detail. Emphasis is given to developing coping skills when dealing with dilemmas faced in adolescence. Session 4: I’m in Charge Looks at birth, the role of parents, and students responsibilities in relationships. Areas such as peer pressure, sexually transmissible infections, relationships with family and friends and where to seek support, are also covered. Questions are encouraged and appropriately addressed as an integral part of the program. One of our teachers will be present throughout the program. If you have any questions regarding this program, please let me know. The cost of the program is $60 and will be included in your Term 4 invoice.

Please go to the school website to complete a permission form to allow your child to participate in this program or click on the link below.
